Older Driver VR
/After the success of FirstCar & Central Bedfordshire Road Safety's first production 'If You Could Change', Senior Road Safety Officer, Tim Oxley presented James Evans (FirstCar Founder) with an idea of producing a 360-degree film, for the older driver.
Working title 'Keep Driving VR' is a 360-degree VR experience aimed at helping older drivers understand better, the risk and hazards that become more prevalent with age, such as impaired vision and physical mobility. The idea of the production is to create two films which are the same - the first film will show a series of scenes where mobility and vision are restricted, and the second showing a series of scenes where vehicle modifications have been added to make driving easier and safer.
Using a specialist roof driven action vehicle, it allows us to rig the 360-degree camera equipment in the driving seat, allowing the viewer to be completely immersed in the film as if it were there own car. This is a new technique and has never been used in a road safety VR production before.
'Keep Driving VR" will be deployed by road safety facilitators, which allows for engagement with the viewer, and offers the opportunity to discuss any questions and concerns they may have. This is also a great chance to suggest any coping strategies or products that may assist with mobility within the car.
The projected release date for 'Keep Driving VR' is April 2020 - Available through The ICE Hub.
